Xiaomi has announced that the latest Android 9.0 Pie operating system-based MIUI 10 interface is now available for its current Mi 8 flagship smartphone. While the device was launched with MIUI 10 interface, it was based on Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. Xiaomi did not reveal much about any feature that is released with the Android 9.0 Pie based-MIUI 10. However, the new update is restricted to only China for the time being. Also, the Android 9.0 Pie update is now limited to beta testers only. Xiaomi is expected to roll out the stable build in future globally in the coming months.
Xiaomi had announced the launch of MIUI 10 in India in June this year. The new MIUI 10 software claims to improve speed, design and sound among other things. Xiaomi has included quite a few nifty features like gestures and has also added Progressive Web Apps. MIUI 10 will have support across aspect ratios – 18:9, 19:9 and 16:9 screens – and the company has also redesigned the interface.
With MIUI 10, there is an added feature of navigation gestures which allows the software to utilise the full-screen displays. AI has been the buzzword for most smartphone companies this year and Xiaomi has also added AI support to MIUI 10. For instance, the cameras on all all Xiaomi smartphones to access the portrait mode on both the front as well as rear camera. However, do note, that the feature will first come to the front cameras of all support devices. Support for rear cameras will be added later.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 was the first smartphone from the company to offer an iPhone X-like notch in the display. The smartphone launched in June. While the device is expected to launch the Mi 8 in India, there is no official word from Xiaomi regarding the possible launch date.
